Biotechnology
PENTAPHARM's biotechnology group develops active ingredients for cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications by using state-of-the-art production techniques and various types of micro-organisms. Innovative solutions can be created, expanded, and transferred to large-scale equipment within PENTAPHARM's plant.
Yeast-derived Superoxide Dismutase The enzyme Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), a highly efficient active ingredient to fight skin ageing, has been traditionally extracted and purified from bovine liver. Recognizing the threat of possible bovine transmitted diseases, PENTAPHARM has discovered a biotechnological alternative.
Thanks to the mobilization of all of its energies and a considerable amount of research, in 1995, PENTAPHARM developed a recombinant form of SOD from the common baker’s yeast. Known as DISMUTIN®-BT, this form of SOD is a primary ingredient in leading cosmetic products.
