Haemostatic drugs like Reptilase® and antithrombotic drugs like Defibrase® are used as therapeutics.
In the diagnosis of thrombotic events the protein C activator Protac® isolated from the venom of the American copperhead, is used throughout the laboratories of all major hospitals in the world. Ecarin, a prothrombin activator from venom of the saw-scaled viper, and Reptilase®-Reagent, a purified product from the South American lance adder, are further tools used in the diagnosis of blood coagulation disorders. |
