The PENTAPHARM's Cosmetics Ingredient Division was established rather by chance. One could almost say that it was a coincidence originated from an after-thought.
PENTAPHARM's core function was to supply active ingredients for the pharmaceutical industry. One of the most important substances being produced was a pharmaceutical quality collagen haemostatic sponge used in thoracic surgery. The key ingredient used in its production was a 1% collagen solution. Coincidently, at the this time in the mid 1970's, the world cosmetics market was booming - several leading skin care companies were just introducing moisturizers containing collagen. The idea to use a version of this pharmaceutical ingredient as a cosmetic was born. The rest is history! This truly innovative idea became a huge success for PENTAPHARM. It helped establish a new and viable business division built upon the world wide success of COLLAGEN, PENTAPHARM, which added revolutionary state-of-the-art ingredients built upon science and technology. Whereas in the beginning, we used classical extraction methods of animal and plant derived feed stocks for our products, we use the most modern production techniques emanating from biotechnology and/or organic synthesis today. Our research strategies focus on the development of highly innovative active ingredients.
